PLACE/ A study of Modern houses in Cornwall
08 July, 11.00am

Exhibition

Over the past year and a half, Sophie has visited modern houses in Cornwall, such as Creak Vean and Pillwood (Feock), Tregannick (Penzance) and Polventon (Trevose). During these visits she gathered notes, photographs, interviews, oral histories and drawings. She combined this field work with archived information and plans gathered through research visits in archives and record offices.

Using these examples of modern architecture as a point of reference, Sophie’s enquiries have led to a collection of work that captures a first draft, an initial thought, or the first marks of an intuitive construction of architectural language and aesthetics. The work conveys the process itself as a point of interest. The use of Letrafilm and Letratone in the drawings extends the diagrammatic vocabulary and captures the essence and honesty of a working drawing.
